THOMSON ST585(i)v6 WIRELESS MULTI-USER ADSL2+ GATEWAY

This is a used THOMSON ST585(i)v6 router/gateway in excellent condition with some minor cosmetic scratches on the shell (see last photo). It comes in its original box with all accessories and software as described below. Additionally, a high quality ISDN splitter will be included for free (this is normally optional).

The setup CD was provided by our previous Greek ADSL provider (Conn-x). Although its contents are mostly in Greek, it can be useful to setup the router with step-by-step instructions in Greek and English. In addition to that, we shall include another CD with all documentation in English. This includes: Datasheet, Installation & Setup Guide, Setup & User Guide, User Guide and CLI (Command Line Interface) Reference Guide for those of you who dare to explore the router in depth.

This router has been used by us for approximately a year and was recently replaced when we changed our ADSL provider. All through the months we used it, it proved very reliable and never had a problem with its operation. It supports ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ and offers high network security.

Overview

With the THOMSON ST585(i), users can experience wireless freedom at lightning-fast speeds. The THOMSON ST585(i) is an 802.11b/g wireless LAN access point with integrated ADSL. Featuring an integrated 10/100Mb/s 4-port switch, the THOMSON ST585(i) offers seamless connection of wired and wireless worlds from anywhere in the home.

The THOMSON ST585(i) lets you share files, printers, and a single broadband ADSL Internet connection with unmatched performance and security, whilst preserving the flexibility and features of a fully fledged professional routing engine. The integrated modem supports ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+. With a simultaneous operation of 802.11b and 802.11g, speed, security and performance is guaranteed. When using 802.11g components, you can transfer data at up to 54Mb/s (five times the speed of older 802.11b wireless networks), and still connect to existing 802.11b products. The THOMSON ST585(i) also supports powerful security mechanisms such as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA™), Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP™) encryption, and a physical user registration button, which allow users to communicate and access data with efficient link quality and the highest level of network security.

Easy to Install

The THOMSON Wireless Home Install Wizard makes setting up a home wireless network as easy as Ethernet, thereby drastically reducing helpdesk calls. This unique and robust mechanism configures and secures your ADSL access point and wireless network clients from a single CD. The wizard performs comprehensive system checks before and during the installation process, and validates all user inputs, in order to guarantee the end-user a secured wireless connection (using WEP or WPA) to the Internet.

Secure

The THOMSON firewall guarantees users the ultimate level in network security. Through integration with Hyper-NAT, the firewall leverages all the ALGs provided in the Hyper-NAT context to minimize undesired service impact. The firewall provides stateful inspection of packets, and an integrated Denial of Service (DoS) engine monitors a wide range of attack patterns, and logs potential security breaches to a local cache or remote server.

Filtering of unwanted content on the Internet also got integrated in the THOMSON ST585(i). Three levels of content filtering are available:

► Basic Content Filtering provides white list/blacklist based url filtering, which can be maintained locally or remotely.

► Standard Content Filtering provides subscription based URL blocking using a network located URL database for URL classification.

► Advanced Content Filtering is a subscription-based service that additionally provides a dynamic mechanism for classifying and blocking content.

The classification database is an on-line store of characterized URL’s, which is continuously updated. The gateway queries the database for each http request and decides on serving the page based on the policy assigned to the requestor.

► Smart DNS and DHCP supports smooth introduction of media delivery nodes like Set Top Boxes, VoIP phones, etc.

FLEXIBundLE

The FLEXIBundLE architecture enables service providers to define, manage and evolve the characteristics of the service offered by the gateway to the end user. This allows a THOMSON ST585(i) to adopt the specific features of a differentiated service offering. The basis for this architec­ture is an extensive multi-role, multi-user management framework that allows each individual component of the Gateway to be (de-)activated independently and remotely.

Hyper-NAt with IP Pass-through

Hyper-NAT delivers absolute flexibility in managing any type of Network Address and/or Port translation, enabling seamless operation of servers on the local network. An extensive list of Application Level Gateways complete this powerful architecture to simultaneously enable services like:
