Product description Product description

1992 RBS £1 COMMEMORATIVE BANKNOTE - "EUROPEAN COMMUNITY SUMMIT"

Britain's and the European Union's first commemorative banknote
Issued on 8 December 1992

The Royal Bank of Scotland is the only UK bank still issuing £1 notes. The present note circulated in 1992 on the event of the European Community (now European Union) Summit in Edinburgh. Fifty thousand notes, with a unique numbering system (EC replacing the usual letter/number coding) were made available in special presentation packs as a memento of this important occasion.

These commemorative notes carry the date of the Summit, 8 December 1992, which is also the date borne by the Bank's first notes issued in 1727.

Features of the notes include an engraving of the Holyroodhouse Palace where the Conference took place, the flag of the European Community and the portrait of Lord Ilay, first Governor of the Bank.
The Edinburgh Castle decorates the back side of the note.

The present banknote has the very low serial number 0037129.

This is a
limited edition commemorative pack with the note in its own plastic presentation case which contains a two-fold card with details of the note and milestones of the Bank's history since 1728.

The banknote is in mint condition.
