NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TELEVISION PRESENTS: THE NATURE SERIES
This is a Nature series of documentaries as only National Geographic can produce. They were presented on the National Geographic Channel between 1999 and 2001 and were released on region 1 DVD, selling for $20 each.
We could locate two of them released for region 2 and sold by Amazon in the UK: The Noble Horse for £20 and The Octopus Show for £30. You will agree that our price is amazingly low for such a hard to find set of documentaries.
The series was produced by National Geographic Television and Thirteen/WNG in association with Trebitsch Production Int'l, GmbH and is presented in a box set of five DVD discs, each running for 52 minutes.
We have given this DVD box set a 3-star rather than 4-star rating because a small part of the plastic DVD holder is cracked. The fault can be seen in the third picture below.

Very Good: a well-cared-for DVD that has been seen, but remains in great condition. The film is complete, without interruption, and does not skip. The box may show limited signs of wear, as may the liner notes.

| The Body Changers For human beings, change is an integral part of life, from conception, through the aging process and up until death. But for some species, change is much more radical. From salamanders with incredible limb-regenerating powers, to the gender-bending bluehead wrasse, THE BODY CHANGERS investigates the fascinating ability of some of nature`s creatures to master their environment by undergoing unbelievable changes. The Noble Horse Discover the power, mystery and romance of horses -one of nature's most magnificent creations. The mystical bond between humans and horses has endured throughout the ages. In this film, we'll travel back in time 4,000 years to the magic moment when the relationship between man and horse was forever changed, thrill to wild stallions sparring on the Western plains, marvel at the high-stepping display of the Spanish horse and hear hooves thundering like heartbeats as rare horses are reintroduced to their Mongolian home. Horses have been our faithful servants, our tireless comrades, and our loyal friends and National Geographic offers a privileged look at the many ways that horses have captured our imaginations and our hearts. The Octopus Show A creature of the ocean deep takes center stage when NATURE presents The Octopus Show. A new age of ocean exploration is lifting the veil of mystery shrouding a creature of legend -the octopus. Dreaded by sailors through the ages, this other-worldly looking denizen of the seas is surrendering the astonishing secrets that have brought it almost mythical status. With footage of octopus species rarely, if ever, seen before -including one with giant eyes and another with antennae in place of suction cups- NATURE takes viewers into the deepest realms of the ocean for a front-row view of The Octopus Show. The Urban Elephant NATURE explores the unusual problems created as the struggle to give Asian elephants a home is fought worldwide. They have a history of captivity that stretches over 200 years. They participate with humans in a surprising array of professions, including tourism, construction, and performance. And their gigantic footsteps may disappear from the face of the earth. The enigmatic subjects of NATURE: The Urban Elephant, Asian elephants are losing territory to the inevitable process of deforestation. Industrialisation all over Asia has hurt the mahouts, or elephant drivers, so that the trained elephants and their riders are being driven into major cities such as Bangkok to earn a meager living receiving donations and food from curious tourists. Elephants forced into a captive life suffer emotionally, physically, and as a species. In "Safe Haven" one woman explains why she created a sanctuary for retired performing elephants after giving up her own circus career. Trail of the Cougar Hunted almost to extinction over the past three centuries, cougars are making a comeback today, with some 30,000 living in the wilds of North and South America. But still they face uncertain prospects, as human encroachment continues to shrink their natural habitats. Doggedly tracking these magnificent animals, once known as the "king cat", filmmaker Ron Shade provides an incisive look at their prospects for survival in Trail of the Cougar. Frequently referred to as mountain lions in some regions, cougars formerly roamed freely throughout the Americas, staking out the largest habitat of any New World mammal. But with their wilderness homes continuing to disappear, the normally secretive and solitary creatures often wander into human communities today, with sometimes amusing and sometimes tragic results. |
